My new favorite dinner spot. Definitively order the octopus appetizer! The service was really nice and quick, the food was great. Definitely coming back

I went with a good friend for Labor Day Weekend for a Miami Spice dinner. This is definitely a nice place if you want to a quiet, soothing night. I was happy it wasn't too loud. The owner of the restaurant was very kind. The food was great. My friend opted for the arroz de marisco while I chose the veil. Still both dishes were amazingly great. If you're a seafood lover, I'd definitely suggest you stop by before the end of Miami Spice.

I had grilled octopus with veggies and it was perfect. Tender and tasty. I recommend it. The owner was there and was very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was perfect. The service is very good. I loved the fact that the tables have enough space in between them so that you feel you can have a private conversation without having half the restaurant hearing your chat. We went for dinner. The atmosphere is great. You will feel very welcome and eat superbly.

Excelent Cod, I just had Caldeirada de Bacalau Frescco (fresh Cod on a Tomato sauce) and it was sooo good!!

There's nothing "Old" about Old Lisbon. Having just left a movie with our friends, our little group decided to have dinner before heading home. Based on their recommendation, we agreed to revisit this restaurant. Admittedly, it had been a while since I had last dined here for one reason or another, and this seemed like an opportune time to reacquaint myself with classical Portuguese cuisine. The décor is definitely modern and minimalist, but still has that traditional and classic charm. There are very few local restaurants nowadays that still adhere to the time honored way of serving diners, including white tablecloths and napkins. Our party was happily greeted by Rui, the manager, and promptly seated. You could tell that not only we were welcome, but appreciated. Once in a while it is nice to be reminded that you are a valued guest. The restaurant is well known for its classic Portuguese cuisine including their traditional and modern takes on Bacalhao (Cod). This is not your grandmother's salted cod that kept people from starving in the winter. This is your fresh, flaky, and delicious fish served grilled or baked in combination with creamy cheeses and other flavors. If you haven't experienced Cod at Old Lisbon, you don't know Cod. Sporting a respectable wine list, the restaurant keeps on hand a great selection of red, white, and green Portuguese wines. The list is also complemented by a hearty selection of various vintages from Spain, France, Italy, and California. Tonight we were treated to a very nice cabernet from Portugal (a 2007 Quinta de Cidrô to be specific). I am, by far, not an expert on wines but this particular selection was exquisite. We can debate authenticity all day long, but flavor and presentation is something that the Staff has definitely mastered here. When the waiter brings you a Portuguese sausage in a flaming pig, you cannot help but "Ooooh and Aaaaah!" - Even the table next to ours was looking over and taking pictures. Our main course was nothing short of perfect. My date ordered the grilled branzino (European Sea Bass). It was nicely seasoned and accompanied by simple sides of rice and vegetables, it was absolutely delicious. I could tell the fish was very fresh and not dried out by overcooking. I had the most flavorful and tender Osso Bucco with airy mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. It melted like butter in my mouth. After dinner, a nice little glass of port completed our meal. Nice and sweet, it was the perfect ending to a five star dining experience. If you are ever in SoMi (South Miami), definitely plan on dining at Old Lisbon. Your taste buds will thank you.

Great service, reminds me of a restaurant in Chicago. Food is 5 star, I will definitely return when I am in the area! Must order the chocolate mouse! Smaller restaurant, meaning more personalized service!

I love this restaurant! The food and service has been consistently amazing for years. I usually meet my friends here for lunch. Everything is always as expected, perfect. The food is always served with a warm smile.

I moved to Miami about 5 months ago and I have found Old Lisbon to be my favorite restaurant thus far. They have 2 locations one on Coral Way and one in South Miami. Both are great restaurants with impeccable service and high quality food prepared to perfection. I tend to eat at the South Miami location because of the incredible manager Rui Martins who treats my wife and I like family. He always seems to remembers us and even the table we last ate at. He's just an overall really nice guy and he makes our dining experience that much better. The restaurant is decorated somewhat minimalist but yet it has an elegant aspect to it. The one thing that I really like is that the linen table cloths are perfectly white and the tables are spread out so that you feel like you have plenty of room even though the restaurant is fairly small. Now lets get to the food shall we? The first thing you must order is the Portuguese sausage appetizer because its just incredible. Its comes served on this flaming ceramic pig so the sausage has a grilled taste to it and it looks cool when they bring it out sizzling in the flames. I am a huge fan of seafood stew and they have a couple varieties of it and they are all excellent and I highly recommend any of them. There are several cod dishes cooked various ways. My wife has had a couple and I have had a couple and I can report that they all are spectacular. The fish is cooked to perfection and is of very high quality. Good stuff for sure. They also have quite a large selection of Portuguese wines and not knowing much about their wines I just simply ask for a recommendation and I always seem to get a really good bottle. I usually take my time eating, chatting and just sipping my wine yet I never feel like I'm rushed. I have always had a great meal and I really like this restaurant and please give it a try as you will not be disappointed as it's easily 5 stars. I love it and you will too.

Authentic Portuguese cuisine! Delicious! Every time I dine here, I feel like I'm back in the outskirts of Lisbon. Very relaxed atmosphere. The staff is sweet, the food is cooked to perfection. The cod fish meals are delicious! Where else can you find a whole section of the menu devoted to cod!? The Bacalhau a Lagareiro is a must try! The only thing is missing is the variety of desserts. But I can't give them less stars for that - I'm usually too stuffed for dessert. How about serving broas de mel!?

Food was ok. Don't get the sangria it was awful & comes in a box - not to mention very expensive. The grilled octopus was delicious. Service was subpar at best.

We were off to such a great start. . . warm fluffy bread served with rich, fruity olive oil. For a moment I was actually impressed and thought, wow, I'm in for a treat. However this slowly went down hill as the evening progressed. The night hit a stumble as I was served the codfish croquettes, which were under-seasoned and otherwise bland. The accompanying hot sauce was served in a bottle and did not belong in a fine dining setting. It was as if the chef knew that the croquettes needed a little extra umph but couldn't be bothered to plate an accompanying sauce, let alone make one. The much needed acidic notes were completely absent from the bottled sauce and may be among the worst hot sauces I've ever tasted. As the main course arrived I expected something special. Wrongly thinking that Portugual, being right on the sea, should have a vast array of recipes perfecting seafood. So I ordered a classic, Seafood Paella. What arrived was nothing short of a ship wreck and left me with a literal bitter taste in my mouth. What was described by my waiter as a dish as rich as risotto did not even come close to hitting the mark. The tomato sauce lacked any sort of vibrancy, sauciness, or even tomato-ness. It tasted less rich than cambell tomato soup (which I've only had the displeasure of having once) and did not add anything to the dish. There was NO saffron used to season the dish, which is a staple of Paella, and the dish hit only one bland note. The rice was overcooked and nearly porridge. The real kicker however was the seafood. Although adequate in portioning, it was NOT fresh (and bordered on rotteness). The mussels and clams were bitter and fishy, while the lobster lacked texture (as well as somehow being over cooked on the outside and undercooked on the interior). Prying the lobster from the shell was also a sort of challenge in itself and shell pieces were found throughout my dish. One of the mussels made me literally gag, and even though I spit it out was probably the cause of my later in the night displeasure. Service was okay, but far from great. As one of 5 tables in the restaurant I was neglected in favor of larger tables. It was easy to see their intentions. I experienced stomach issues for the rest of the evening and will never be returning to this establishment. For the steep price tag I could've made this meal three times over with fresh seafood and actual flavor. I am sorely disappointed and will be warning my friends, and felt compelled to create this account to warn you as well.

Very upset with this place. We used their valet service and they illegally parked my car for which I received a parking ticket for. So basically I paid for valet AND received a parking ticket as well. When I advised the restaurant manager of the incident his response was "oh yes, it happens from time to time" like if this is ok on his behalf. My response: NEVER AGAIN.

Wow, wow! The best fresh seafood i have ever tried. Ingredients are fresh, all food is juicy and low in salt, menu has lots of options from vegetarian to meat, highlighting seafood specialities. The place is great and even though the prices are not so cheap, it is worth every penny. I do not give 5 starts just because of service. Too sad they don't know how to handle their own busy hours and feels they take more customers thay can serve. Very sad!

Worst experience ever! We went to this restaurant to celebrate my sister's birthday. It was a Sunday at 7:30pm. The kitchen cut a steak that was smaller than advertised. They wanted to charge us for a 14oz steak when in fact it was less than 9oz. Other members in our party got the proper size and it was visually noticeable. The manager was horrible and refused to accept the kitchen made a mistake. He took our food away without our permission forcing us to order something else. We refused and his reply was "good, thank you." Whatever that meant. He refused to provide us with his name to give a formal complaint to the owner. No one should ever have to go through this experience. To add insult to injury, the service was horrible and we waited forever to get our food. They only put one waitress for a party of twenty people. She messed up everyone's order because she was confused. We got there at 7:30pm and placed our orders but did not get the food until 9:00pm. Old Lisbon ruined what was suppose to be a happy day for our family.

What a pleasant surprise. I walk last this restaurant all the time but for some reason never found my way inside. Finally we took the plunge and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is quaint and relaxing, the servers were attentive and friendly and the food was very tasty. The highlight for me was definitely the grilled octopus appetizer. It was tender flavorful and was a hefty portion for an appetizer for two. We also shared one of the seafood platters, again the portion was large. We ordered the platter for one and along with our appetizer had plenty of food. The platter was tasty and the seafood tasted fresh. Unfortunately the fish was slightly over cooked for my liking but everything else was just right. The dessert was the icing on the cake. We had the delicias de Fatima and it was rich creamy and indulgent finished with a glass of expresso. This was a lunch I would gladly enjoy again,

Delightful restaurant on a great walkable Street in South Miami. Just had dinner there and it was delicious. This is a local restaurant that serves traditional Portuguese cuisine. All the food was prepared perfectly served by very courteous staff and a very friendly owner who came to our table several times to make sure everything was good. We had several appetizers to start with, octopus in a vinaigrette which was freshly prepared and so tasty with a hint of olive oil garlic and parsley. We had grilled sardines that were a bit bigger than I had expected but very tasty with the bone in so be careful with that, and mozzarella tomato and olives which everyone seemed to enjoy this standard dish. I ordered the Mediterranean Seabass filet which came with fluffy rice and sautéed garden vegetables. It was just delicious and very plentiful. The fish was cooked at just the right temperature so melted in my mouth. Also had the beef short ribs which fell off the bone and were very tasty in a tangy tomato sauce. You have to try the chocolate mousse... It is one of the best I've ever had. It was rich and had bits of dark chocolate in it. It was a big portion so easily shared by two or even three people. Old Lisbon is a wonderful restaurant that I would come back to on my next trip to Miami.

This is a personal preference but just not a fan of Portuguese food. The codfish is the basic staple of Portuguese food and I think its just OK. Not very flavorful in my opinion. The place seems pretty busy and is a nice atmosphere. Makes a good place for a date.

I can add to this list of reviews! This place sucks. The waiter decided to tell us how Portugal never served fresh fish. He also wanted to teach us how to debone sardines. We left!

I've been trying to see what everyone loves about this place and I unfortunately still haven't seen it. I went once and had the seafood platter. Really average. Nothing stood out or was succulent. Just very plain. The place is small and they're always busy so they lack a bit in the customer service. I decided to go again and try their infamous codfish and a meat dish. Again very average. My boyfriend had a codfish with fried onions and pickled vegetables. It tasted like an old fish and no particular seasonings of flavors stood out. I had the 10oz choice beef that brings a fried egg on top, rice on the side, patatas and creamy garlic sauce. The egg was overly fried so there wasn't a nice mix of the meat with the egg. The meat was ordered medium but the quality of the steak was so sub par, it felt like it was well done. Too much cartilage and fat on it to enjoy it. The patatas are good if you add salt and the rice is decent. For their prices and for how busy they are I recommend going somewhere else unless you absolutely love codfish.

This place is a rare gem. It's hard to find good Portuguese restaurants in Miami, and I'm glad this one decided to take roots in Dade County, a gazillion miles away from Lisbon. What we specially like are the Cod fish dishes ("Bacalhau"). The tastes and flavors are very close to the mother land, and remind me a lot of my many years spent in Brazil, where Bacalhau is a tradition on weekends and specially during the Easter holidays. Good food, great and friendly service, good Portuguese wines, great location.. Saúde! (To your health!)

I have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions and can only rave about it. It is one of my favorite eating places in Miami. They try to do anything to please you, and you leave the place more than satisfied. The appetizers are great, the seafood is wonderful, and even the meat platters are rich with flavor and delicious. Once I tried the braised ribs and loved it! Another time we asked to be served "family style" like in those very authentic Italian restaurants. And they brought in platters containing food for all 6 of us. Needless to say , we could each take from each platter as much as we wanted. It was fun and good eats!

Lovely restaurant... I've been to the one on Sunset twice, but not to their Coral Way location. Always interested, (with some exceptions), in trying ethnic foods and the Portuguese food here is delightful along with the ambiance and service. Both times I've been there, I've seen only two wait staff covering both inside and outside tables and they do move quickly taking care of customer needs. I had the Prosciutto and Brazilian cheese appetizer and for my dinner, one of their many bacalhau offerings. A large portion of fried cod in a casserole with mashed potatoes and a wonderful creamy garlic sauce. The garlic sauce is the same sauce that's served on top of their yummy steak entries, one of which I had on my last visit there. For dessert, I had a flan, made with port wine and very different, and much tastier than Cuban flan. I also took home a portion of most delectable pears poached in port wine which was pounced on and lasted no more than five minutes into my front door. There are other dinners I want to explore on their menu. Looking forward to my next dinner there. PS. must find Portuguese olive oil as served on their tables with the rolls.. So light and fragrant. Dipping spices to add to olive oil served on my first visit but not second. Wish I'd remembered to ask if they still served them.

If you haven't been here yet, you've got to go. This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. Whatever you decide to order, you're going to get fresh, boldly-flavored Mediterranean cuisine at its best. Their wine list is superb, featuring a wide array of very affordable bottles. The desserts are simple, wonderfully executed delights. The real reason I love this place, though, is the staff. Rui, who runs the place, is a consummate professional and a people-pleaser. When I go there, it honestly feels like I have a Portuguese uncle in the restaurant business. If he tells me that one dish is better than another, or that he has a special I've got to try, I know he's going to be right. The rest of the staff is no different. They're friendly beyond words, attentive, polite, and efficient, even when the place is packed. If you're looking for the best fine dining experience in South Miami without fine dining prices, this is the place to go. Ask for Rui or Sandra, and tell them Michael sent you. They'll take care of you.

Excellent food and service. The octopus was out of this world. The sardines were great. The cald bacalhau was delicious. Just when I was thinking it can't get any better, I had the delicia Fatima for desert! Highly recommended.

  • DV P.

I had the sardines as an appetizer. They were good, but nothing extraordinary. I followed that up with the cod stew in tomato sauce (Caldeirada de Bacalhau). This was also quite good, but again, nothing extraordinary. The dessert was the Delicia de Fatima custard with cream topping. It was too sweet for my taste, but interesting to try nonetheless. The service was friendly and speedy enough. If I had the time, I would come back and try the other items on the menu.

Specialty here is the cod fish prepared in a variety of ways. Some variations are a bit salty so discuss with the well informed and helpful staff. All meaty and substantive. Good Portuguese vino verde and desserts. Recommended.

Portuguese specialty food is bacalhau (cod fish) if you go there and order something else it will probably be a mistake... And their biggest specialty are the "pasteis de bacalhau" witch in Brasil are known as "bolinhos de bacalhau" are really good, I mean my mom's are better of course but theirs are not bad at all!! And they are APPETIZERS you gotta have those. There is a variety of bacalhau dishes, I've tried "bacalhau a gomes de sa", "bacalhau a bras" e "bacalhau com natas" and they are all really good :)

    (5)
  • Haronyd M.

I had never been to a Portuguese restaurant before. Their specialty is codfish, which is included in most of the dishes. I was a little hesitant at first because codfish is such a strong flavored fish, but I went for it. I had the Bacalhau com Nasta. It was shredded codfish on a bed of potatoes with a layer of cheese on top. It was DELICIOUS! I truly enjoyed this dish. I wish it had more potato than it did, but it was still great. The service was great, very involved staff. When you go to this place, be ready to eat! The portions are very large and the food is very greasy.

  • Kit K.

Disappointing, shellfish was not very fresh. Not to the point that food poisoning would be a concern, but the seafood and white bean stew I had would have been so much better with fresh ingredients. The muscles may have been from frozen.

I absolutely LOVE this place ! I am from a small Portuguese town in Massachusetts and have family in Portugal, and this is a home away from home restaurant. I wish it was a little closer to Boca Raton but i try to make the drive regularly to get some AWESOME food ! The flamming chourica is great ! Any Bacalhau (cod fish) dishes are awesome! My favorite is the Bacalhau gomes de sa. Pasteis de Bacalhau are great too and sopa de caldo verde (Kale Soup) is a must ! Chocolate Mousse is a killer dessert too ! I'm hungry just writing about how good the food is ! Service is a little slow but that is just native to the Portuguese culture and shouldn't eat here if you're in a rush. Take the time and enjoy the food and wine :)

  • Michelle J.

Loved everything about the place. It's a little secret I feel Miami holds. The house wine I felt added the cherry on top as well as the dessert. The servers give you such explanation that why should I ruin it for you.! With its great authentic music and bustling street you'll feel in a bit of paradise.

  • Andy D.

I haven't been in a while and noticed service slipped a little. Although there was only one server and she was swamped, I guess others had the same idea as us. We ordered the grilled seafood, and the seafood rice w/clams and mussels. both entrees could have been portions for two, they were huge. Also both entrees were slightly overcooked. Nice but not great. Old Lisbon seems to be a work horse, I don't think I would order those dishes again, but. I'd definitely be back.

  • Nydia M.

The menu at Old Lisbon is very heavy on seafood, especially bacalhau, but don't let that scare you if you're not a huge seafood eater. The shrimp in garlic sauce appetizer is just amazing. And they serve a really good churrasco. Also, a lot of their dishes are served with the best potatoes I've ever had. They're like little golden brown pieces of heaven on your plate. Parking in this part of South Miami can be a bit of a pain on the weekends. Try parking in the garage a block away, or there's always valet parking available...because you so know that you're not going to find metered street parking after 8pm on a Friday.

Awesome, authentic portuguese food. Best quality cod fish in town. Hard to pick the favorite dish, probably tried the entire menu. Want something different? Try the Grilled octopus....refreshing choice.

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a very long time. Thank Goodness for LivingSocial - gave us the extra push. This location, from what I was told in comparison to the Coral Way location is classier and elegant. The ambiance was simply perfect, however be sure to make a reservation - especially for a weekend. It is a bit small so tables are limited. The service was excellent, very gracious and attentive. For starters we had the prosciutto with portugese cheese, I had the grilled snapper with shrimp, my fiancee had the Feijoada de Marisco. All excellent dishes, great portions not to make you feel overstuffed. Recommended wine is the Charamba. Simply excellent. The only reason why I'm leaving off a star is their dessert selection. Everything was the custard type, aside from the typical restaurant ice cream and fruit. If they can up the sweets I'd be happy to give it a full five stars! Definitely going again, with or without LivingSocial.

This was my second time dining here and it was as the first time amazing. I love their seafood and I also tried their churassco from my boyfriend's order and it was spectacular as well. The service has always been good and quick. I have no complaints about this restaurant and I recommend it for anyone who is in the area and wants to have a very good and tasty meal.

I'm not sure what it was about the day that The Hubby and I went for dinner but it started off on the wrong foot and went downhill from there. We made reservations for 8:30. It was 9pm and we were still not seated. We patiently waited, but when I went to ask the guy again when we would be seated the guy didn't even remember us! He said "HI good evening, how many in your party!?" WHAT? I've been waiting for 45 min with a reservation! When we were finally seated we ordered the sardines to start. They were alright, but def not the best I've ever had. The hubby ordered the octopus which was good, but I ordered the Bacalhau com Nasta which I thought would be amazing after seeing all these yelp reviews, but I did not like it one bit. I think I had two bites and I left it. I was not impressed with this restaurant and I don't plan to come back.

Great ambiance, and a classic menu. We started off with the prosciutto w/ Portuguese cheese, which was good. The dish was also served with olives that tasted like they were straight out of the can. Olives are not a garnish! Next we ordered the grilled snapper fillet w/ shrimp, garlic sauce, potatoes and vegetables. Let me start by saying that we're both very critical of seafood. We both agreed that this snapper was cooked perfectly! Nothing was left to be desired. It was truly an exceptional dish. We also ordered the beef skewer w/ onions, Portuguese sausage, potatoes and vegetables. This dish was flavorless and very overcooked. I can't emphasize how dry the beef was...not good. The staff was very busy working a full room, but we would have liked a bit more attention at the beginning and end of the meal. Despite the service, and the poor meat dish, I would go back for that fish.

the Sunset location is very busy, so you'll need reservations. The food is amazing, although a warning about bacalhau: it is a dried cod preserved in salt that is re-constituted. It is definitely an acquired taste, I would **not at all recommend** if you don't know that you already love it. I am an adventurous foodie, and I love seafood: but not having grown up with this dish, I could not eat it at all, and got ill from the smell. Not the fault of the kitchen or the preparation, the fault was all mine and my inexperience/taste. Everything else is fantastic (grilled octopus, shrimp in garlic, desserts). Just be warned about the traditional Portuguese fish.

Very nice place to take your family or significant other for dinner. Every time I have gone, I have had a nice experience. The food is fresh and made to order and the menu is VERY extensive so GOOD LUCK! The only complaint I have is that they need more staff members. The manager or owner ( I am not sure) who is also the hostess, waiter, busboy and sommelier CAN'T DO IT ALL. They need at least one or two more waiters because unfortunately, the service just isn't great when there are more than 4 tables. He recommended the Vino Verde the last time we went because my mom likes sparkling wine and it was pretty good! I am normally not a fan, but it was nice. Really recommend this place for a nice quiet dinner.

This is my favorite restaurant in Miami. The food is fantastic. Start with pastéis de bacalhau( don't miss this treat). Bacalhau às natas is my favorite, even if the others are also excellent, it's my personal choice. Order some vinho verde and you'll have a great experience. Delicia de Fátima is a delicious dessert.

A friend suggested to try it. Thee specialize in cod. I am not a big fan of cod but I like adventure. Parking can be a challenge. There is a small parking lot in the back. (Parking entrance in 17 St). I arrived on a Sunday at 1:40 and there were only 2 spaces left. The restaurant is cozy and charming but the noise made it hard to talk among us. One of us ordered the cod in a onion, red pepper, mozzarella sauce: superb! I the other person ordered lamb which she said it was good. I supposes it was because she asked for to take it home and she rarely does that. I order shrimps with garlic cream sauce that was very very good. The portions are very big. For dessert we shared a pear cooked in port. I do not care much for sweets, but this was amazing! The service was good. I am not giving the place 5 stars because of the noise, and the possible parking challenge . I will go back, but at a time there is less people.

Took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day. We ordered the Cod croquettes as appetizers, which were amazing! For drinks, we got a pitcher of Sangria. It had fresh fruit, was sweet, and not too strong. I ordered the Bacalhau com Natas and she ordered the Feijoada de Marisco. Both were excellent, but it was clear that the Bacalhau com Natas was a true standout. It was unbelievably tasteful. Good portions. We took the leftovers home. Service was nice and fancy. A bit pricey but worth it nonetheless.

Went for lunch with a friend and was not disappointed. The restaurant is fabulous. The staff was very attentive. Started off with the cod croquettes which were heavenly. I had the seafood stew which was amazing!! The portion was really big so enough for two people to share. The atmosphere is nice quiet and intimate. Will definitely be returning.

As you know, I'm very passionate for great food, I have been searching for great authentic Portuguese food and I found it . South Miami ,that's correct .The Old Lisbon on Sunset rd. From the beginning we had a warm welcome. When I say Authentic than it was,Coming from Newark NJ Ferry st, Where we have over 500 Portuguese and Brazilian rest. That's what I mean. I had the Pork and Clams and my beautiful wife had the seafood platter with the twin lobster tails ,that melted in your mouth following with the great olive flavor that you could only get with real Portuguese oil(oh MY GOD )both dishes had the authentic Portuguese olive oil and all the great earthy ingredients that go into preparation of all Portuguese dishes . Great Job and Obrigado to my Portuguese friends in south Miami . see u soon

I tried out this restaurant for a late lunch on a Sunday this past weekend. I went with my husband and 2 kids. I was really looking forward to it because there aren't any Portuguese restaurants close to where I live, which sucks since I grew up in Newark, NJ with one of those on every corner. I was a little disappointed that a high chair was not offered for my very petite 3 year old but not a big deal. Everything was fine, great actually, until we got our entrees. We went from excellent food and service to NO service! Once the place started getting busy, they totally stopped servicing our table. We had to flag down one of the waiters to get the dessert menus, which were "thrown" in front of us. They never came back to take our order. We ended up flagging down a waiter again to get the check, there was no way we were going to give this place any more of our money. The food was really good but I wouldn't go back there again. I'm guessing the Zagat rating is for the food and not the service. Also, some nice mellow Portuguese music to set the ambiance would have been nice too instead of the elevator music they had on. And by the way, to those wanting to try a Portuguese restaurant for the first time, there will be lots of cod fish on the menu...that's what we Portuguese eat, lots of cod fish. And yes we have over a hundred ways of preparing it ;)

I've been here 4-5 times and have always had a great meal. Service is very attentive, but if the restaurant is packed it can be a bit slow. No worries though, as they have an excellent wine list and their appetizers are delicious, especially the grilled sardines. If you are a fan of salted cod, this place is heaven. Their menu has about all the different ways this fish can be prepared. Parking can be challenging on Sunset Dr, but there is plenty around and walking in this neighborhood is very pleasant.

5 Star food, 5 star service and... Well, 5 star prices, but what do you expect. Great food, very authentic. Ask the manager to recommend you the wine, to pair it with your food.

Had been wanting to try this out for a bit, so Friday night we wandered the outskirts of Sunset Shops and landed here. The restaurant looked inviting, and while we didn't have a reservation, they accommodated us with a warm and pleasant welcome. I do have a problem with tables that are on the aisle, or close to a service door, or in a well traveled area, like where waiters take short cuts, and unfortunately this was the 2 top they had; OK...we'll try it anyway. Having said that, it had a nice atmosphere; not loud...a pleasant 'din' . I must be honest; Not knowing anything about the menu details, something must be noted; They have a few codfish dishes ! It reminded me of the Forrest Gump scene where Bubba goes through all the ways that shrimp can be prepared ...'' you can boil it, saute it, fry it...'' well, you get the point. Ordered a bottle of wine (selections were more 'new world' but we found a nice bottle), and checked out the pages that DIDN'T have codfish on them : ) we quite honestly were going to get one of every one of the appetizers and have that for dinner, but wanting mussels we settled on that. They were very tasty, and the both that they were in...WOW! I mentioned to the waiter they should bottle and sell that as a great seafood base ! Just slightly spicy, slightly tangy, with just enough herbs and onions/peppers to compliment the mussels. NICE! Rounded out the appetizers with an octopus salad that was great as well. Sliced thin and served cold, again with just the right amount of herbs, drizzled with olive oil and vinegar. We landed on two great picks! For the entrees, forgot if it was mentioned or not, but THEY HAVE CODFISH! : ) While expecting more meat dishes (and selections in general), we settled on the grilled sardines and a seafood medley dish with shrimp, mussels, squid and clams. The menu was not a 'fault' of the restaurant; we just didn't expect it to be heavy on....CODFISH! The entrees were good, but honestly we were more impressed with the appetizers and salad. The portion sizes were perfect, but there was just something...lacking...Not as flavorful IMHO. Not a negative by any means, just an honest critique. We managed to SQUEEZE in a dessert, and the pears poached in port wine were fantastic. Always have to try something other than chocolate cake, key lime pie, or tiramisu ! And this didn't disappoint. Being a Friday night, the service may have been '' in the weeds'' a bit, but it really didn't take away from the evening. There seems to be quite a few ''regulars'' that dine here, and maybe there was a slight edge to those diners. No worries at all...Still all in all, a good dining experience.

I visited this restaurant for the first time last week while they were offering the Miami Spice menu. My friend and I enjoyed the cod fish croquettes, the arroz con mariscos (the seafood rice) and a delectable flan for dinner. Granted, I think the biggest misconception I had upon going in here was assuming that the Portuguese cuisine is like Spanish cuisine. While it is similar, it is not the same; nonetheless, I found the food to be delicious. Also, the service was amazing and the staff was extremely friendly. All these things and the excellent food made this meal a great experience. I will definitely be back to visit once again. It's no wonder this restaurant's name is so well renowned!

We love to visit.. however the location at Sunset has very poor customer service. Our last visit was on a Saturday night- we waited approx 20 minutes.. two larger parties came afterwards and were seated ..even though they did say in front of us they did not have previous reservations ( this was the excuse given to us) clearly they look at for the bigger parties instead of accomodating all customers- the manager was asked and he did not even offer a solution he just stared at us . the feeling was if you dont like it leave - we have visited their other location and the treatment is flawless however I believe the Manager and hostess at the Sunset location lack customer service skills.. what a shame.. I would love to hear from Management on this comment Maria Bayona

Been here twice for lunch and had the white fish, potato, egg, onion ... thingie. It looked odd enough on paper for me to try it, and it was pretty good and very filling. I loved it when I started, liked it by the end. I'm not sure how the place is for dinner, but it's super quiet and empty both times I went for lunch. I haven't been to the other location to say which one is better. The second time I went there, the table next to me ordered SOMETHING off the menu that smelled something fierce. I think it was fish. It was enough for me to call the bill and get out of there.

We were walking aroundSouth Miami wih my aunt and uncle looking for a nice restaurant...we saw this tiny restaurand and we adventured inside...I saw the Zagat sticker, so it gave me confidence. We went in and we were greeted by the owner. The place is tiny, but very cozy; the decoration is nice and tasty. We did not order appetizers, but the entrees were really good. I ordered shrimps with garlic and my family ordered beef (crazy, becasue the menu is more seafood than anything else). They said the beef was awesome. If you love seafood, and maybe beef...go to this place.

The atmosphere in this restraurant was great. The food was fantastic; everything was cooked to order. The service was good; Drinks were refilled appropriately - which is always one of my pet-peeves. We had a reservation and when we arrived our table was ready; we did not have to wait.

Awesome food! Great service! I usually have the fish of the day. My wife the mixed seafood. It's always great - my daughter is younger - always has chicken fingers. Try the sausage app. If they have coconut crisp dessert (not sure of the name?) with vanilla ice cream - you will die...

NOTE: I dined at the South Miami location on Sunset. I went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and absolutely loved it. First off, my boyfriend and I went to Portugal this summer and enjoyed the cataplana com polvo at a little beach restaurant in the Algarve region. I checked out the menu and realized the restaurant didn't offer it, but noticed a few other octopus dishes so decided to write them an email. I received a reply the same day from Carlos saying they would be more than happy to accommodate our request and asked for a date and time when we would be dining. After eating in Miami for a few years now, I was surprised and pleased at how nice and pleasant the interaction was. Not to mention, the email wasn't written in broken English or in a way that it seemed like I was bothering anyone. I appreciate the attention. A few days later we showed up for our reservation and were promptly seated (again, somewhat of a rarity in Miami!). The decor was simple, yet elegant and actually reminded me of one of the nicer restaurants we ate at in Salema. The waiter brought fresh, hot bread and water and let us look at the wine menu before bugging us for any requests. Their selection of wines is amazing and I was really pleased to see a few different kinds of vinho verde. (FYI: We ordered the cheapest bottle and it was DELICIOUS!) The manager took our order and once I mentioned "Carlos", immediately knew what we wanted and took care of everything. In addition to our cataplana com polvo we ordered a cold polvo salad and mussels. Both appetizers were delicious. The octopus wasn't overcooked/chewy, with a succulent center. The mussels (a special of the day - not the New Zealand ones) were amazing - a good broth with just a hint of spice. The cataplana was so good - tomatoes and green peppers stewed together with potatoes, clams and octopus all served in the copper cataplana pot. AMAZING! I highly recommend this place. We had great service (the kind of place that fills your water glass before you can ask them) and amazing food. We'll definitely be back!

If you don't mind chocking on large fish bones, this place is for you. Most of the dishes are cod, so expect very large bones. Play it safe and order a mixed grill without fish.

If you want to be treated as a person who matters and plan on spending less than 40 DOLLARS under no circumstance come here. The waiter was nice but once management found out we had only wanted dessert they took the plates, silverware, and even the bread out of our hands!! Rude does not even begin to express this type of treatment from a so called 4 star restaurant. Its a shame that this snorgy type of attitude still exists in Miami. Oh and one last thing if you pay using cash make sure to give exact change since they refused to.give us change.

This was my second time dining here and it was as the first time amazing. I love their seafood and I also tried their churassco from my boyfriend's order and it was spectacular as well.

This is a personal preference but just not a fan of Portuguese food. The codfish is the basic staple of Portuguese food and I think its just OK. Not very flavorful in my opinion. The place seems pretty busy and is a nice atmosphere. Makes a good place for a date.

Very sad!

Loved everything about the place. It's a little secret I feel Miami holds. The house wine I felt added the cherry on top as well as the dessert.

The portions are very large and the food is very greasy.

the Sunset location is very busy, so you'll need reservations.

Awesome food! Great service! I usually have the fish of the day. My wife the mixed seafood. It's always great - my daughter is younger - always has chicken fingers. Try the sausage app. If they have coconut crisp dessert (not sure of the name?) with vanilla ice cream - you will die...

Very sad!

Specialty here is the cod fish prepared in a variety of ways. Some variations are a bit salty so discuss with the well informed and helpful staff. All meaty and substantive. Good Portuguese vino verde and desserts. Recommended.

I would love to hear from Management on this comment Maria Bayona

Went with the expectation that the Coral Way location would be better, but I was proven wrong. The food and service were excellent! This is truly one of best restaurants in Miami.

5 Star food, 5 star service and... Well, 5 star prices, but what do you expect. Great food, very authentic. Ask the manager to recommend you the wine, to pair it with your food.

First time eating here and I must say I'm definitely coming back.. Great food, Great ambience! Place was very clean and customer service was excellent. Menu is mostly seafood, but has some good beef selections for those that don't like fish
